This year’s Men’s Retreat is all about…
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!
The one-man-takes-on-the-world approach to movie heroes is a lie that many men believe. From John Wayne to Liam Neeson, we believe that a true sign of strength is the ability to take on multiple enemies single handedly and come out victorious. Real life doesn’t work that way. Real enemies aren’t such bad shots, nor do they take turns when attacking us… And most of the enemies that we face are not as simple as another man with a gun. Every day we are bombarded with attacks from the Enemy who loves nothing more than to isolate us and make us think we have to do it alone. It’s a lie.
God made men in His image. The image of God is the very image of community. One God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It’s a great mystery, but clearly we were not meant to do life alone. And, in particular, men need to do life with other men. As King Solomon wisely observed; “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” We are simply stronger together.
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love. (1 Corinthians 16:13-14)
