Arizona Bones and the Search for the Jewel of Wisdom.
This is the script of what Arizona Bones covered for the kids at the KOA VBS on August 20, 2016.
Session 1 – Introduction
Hello Kids, my name is Arizona Bones. And I just returned from a long expedition that took me all over the world. I was looking for something of great value. I was looking for the Jewel of Wisdom.
Have you heard of it?
This jewel is not like other jewels. In fact, it is the most precious jewel in all the world, in all the universe! It’s more valuable than silver or gold. It’s more precious than rubies or emeralds. Diamonds are like gravel compared to the Jewel of Wisdom.  There is nothing that you can want that compares with it. To have the Jewel of Wisdom makes you the richest person on earth!
And so, when I first heard about it – I knew I had to have it.  So, I spent the last several years searching for it. Searching for the Jewel of Wisdom.
And guess what?!  I found it!!
And the stories are true! It IS more valuable than gold, or diamonds, or even any amount of money. It’s PRICELESS – meaning it’s worth more than all the money in the world combined!!
And I found it!!
And today, with the help of my friends, I’m going to show you how you can find it too!

Session 2 – Traders of the Lost Mark
Hey Kids, it looked like you were having a lot of fun with my friends!  That’s great!
Well, I’ve gathered you together to start telling you how I found the Jewel of Wisdom….
One thing everyone knows is that if you want to find some treasure, the first thing you need is a treasure map!!  And on that treasure map is a MARK that tells you where the treasure is!
So, the first thing I had to look for was this treasure map.
It took me a long time, and I had to ask a lot of people, and go in some rather scary places, but finally I came upon a very secret society of treasure hunters who had found the Jewel of Wisdom. They called themselves The Traders of the Lost Mark! (Traders are people who trade one thing for another, like money for something they want.)
And they told me the story of the first trader to find the Jewel of Wisdom. His name was Solomon. And he lived a long, long time ago in a land far, far away. Solomon was a king. He was the king of a great nation. And one day, God spoke to Solomon in a dream and said “Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”
Can you believe that? God was going to give Solomon anything he asked for!!  Wouldn’t you like God to say that to you??
Well, do you know what Solomon asked for?
He asked for Wisdom!  The Jewel of Wisdom!
And guess what?!  God gave it to him. Solomon was the first person to have the Jewel of Wisdom and it made him the richest and wisest man who ever lived.
And before he died – he made a treasure map to show us where to find the oh so precious Jewel of Wisdom.  And ever since then, the Traders of the Lost Mark have been helping others like me and like you find it!!
Now the map is not a picture map, but a word map. He left us clues that we can follow to find the Jewel.  And today, my friends and I are going to share some of those clues with you!
And the first one I’ll give you right now.
Proverbs 9:10 says (that’s what we call Solomon’s list of clues – we call them Proverbs, and we number them to help keep them straight)
Proverbs 9:10 says..
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
The beginning of wisdom – that means the starting point of this hunt for the Jewel of Wisdom – is the fear of the Lord.  Now, that doesn’t mean that you are afraid of him. To fear the Lord is an old fashion way (remember Solomon lived a long time ago) of saying to honor and respect the Lord. To recognize how big and powerful and awesome God is.  Solomon is saying that once you understand just how big and awesome God really is…then you are starting on the right track to find Wisdom.
Now, think about that as you go to your next events…

Session 3 – The Temple of Fools
Hey Kids! Looks like you’re having fun and learning a lot!  I hope that clue I gave you is helping you figure out how to find the Jewel of Wisdom!  Trust me, it’s totally worth the effort to find it!
But before I give you more clues, I have to give you a very important warning because I don’t want you to make the same mistake that I did!
You see, in my search for the Jewel of Wisdom, after I met with the Traders of the Lost Mark, I did something really silly and didn’t do a very good job of following the map that Solomon made. And I ended up the dreaded Temple of Fools!!
The Temple of Fools is a very scary place that is the exact opposite of finding Wisdom. It’s a place where everyone knows the right things to do, but instead they do the wrong things and they end up really hurting each other and hurting themselves.
And do you know what I realized later?  If I had just read all of the clues in the Proverbs of Solomon, I would have saved myself the trouble of falling into the Temple of Fools because in his clues, he warns us about it.
In fact, one of the first clues he gives us says…
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
In other words – fools don’t like to be told what to do. Fools don’t like to hear good advice. Fools don’t want the Jewel of Wisdom!
Here’s another clue…
Proverbs 28:26
Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.
Fools are people who only trust in themselves, who only do what they want to do without caring at all about other people and especially not caring about what God says or what is wise. And in the Temple of Fools, everyone is like that – and it’s not very safe. I sure hope none of you kids end up going there!
And guess what? If you listen to these clues and do what they say, then you won’t have to!!
Here’s another one that is really important for you kids…
Proverbs 15:5
Only a fool despises a parent’s discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise.
That’s right!  If you don’t listen to your parents, then that makes you a FOOL!!  You don’t want to be a fool do you??  Then  you need to listen to your parents and learn from their correction and you will be wise!!
I’ll leave you with one more clue before I send you off to my friends. This one is really important.
Psalm 14:1
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
The best way to end up in the Temple of Fools is to say in your heart that there is no God. I sure hope none of you have to go there, because it’s a really bad place.
Now, go have some fun, and when we meet again I’ll share with you how I finally found the awesome and amazing Jewel of Wisdom!!

Session 4 – The Last Jewel Raid
Hey Kids!  Looks like you’ve been having a lot of fun!  That’s great, and I hope you’ve been learning a lot too!
I’m really excited because we have now come to the part of my story where I get to tell you how I found the Jewel of Wisdom!
But first I have to tell you about when I made a very big mistake. I have to tell you about The Last Jewel Raid!
While I was at the Temple of Fools I made some friends who were a really bad influence on me, and they convinced me that the way to find the Jewel of Wisdom was to steal some jewels from a local treasure shop.  Well, let’s just say it didn’t go very well. Instead of finding the Jewel of Wisdom, I found myself in the Jail of Lisbon!! (in Portugal, South America)
Well, while I was there, I got really depressed and sad because I couldn’t seem to find what I was looking for. But then one day I remembered that I had the treasure map in my bag, so I pulled it out and started reading it.
You know what I found out? There was more to the map than just the clues of King Solomon. It turns out there was a whole bunch of stuff in this map from lots of different people who had also found the Jewel of Wisdom!
So, I started reading and reading and reading and when I got out of jail I started looking and looking and looking until one day I found it!!! The Jewel of Wisdom!!
And do you know where I found it? It wasn’t buried in the ground. It wasn’t in some ancient temple. It wasn’t deep in the ocean. It wasn’t at the top of a mountain. Because I had looked all those places and hadn’t found it. But as I read this book I learned that the Jewel of Wisdom cannot be FOUND at all!!
It turns out that the Jewel of Wisdom is not like other jewels. It’s not the kind you can put in a ring or wear around your neck or hang from your ears. It’s the only jewel like it, and the only place you can keep it is in your heart!
And another thing that surprised me about this Jewel of Wisdom is that it is not an IT – it’s a HE. The Jewel of Wisdom is a PERSON!!
But not just any person. This person is very very important.
Here’s the clue from this treasure map that told me that…
This part of the book is actually a letter that one of the Traders of the Lost Mark was writing to some friends of his. He’s telling them how much he cares about them, but listen to what he says at the end…
Colossians 2
My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Jesus Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Did you catch it? He’s saying that in Jesus Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
It turns out that the Jewel of Wisdom is none other than the person, Jesus Christ!!
Have you guys ever heard of him?
This book tells us all about him!  And wow was he an amazing guy!!
Did you know that he was the Son of God?  That’s right. His birth is the reason we celebrate Christmas.
And there’s another holiday we celebrate because of Him – do you know which one it is?  Easter.
On Easter we celebrate the most amazing thing that anyone has ever done!  Jesus rising from the dead!
That’s right, he lived on this earth as a normal human being like you and me, but he never did anything wrong!
You would think someone who never did anything wrong would never get in trouble, but that’s not what happened. He actually got in big trouble because a lot of people didn’t like him because his goodness made them look bad (cuz they were) and do you know what they did? They killed Jesus!!  They hung him on a cross. That’s why we have crosses at churches.
And do you know what this book tells us? It tells us that Jesus let them kill him so that he could so something for you and for me. He died on that cross so that our sins could be forgiven. So that you and me, who have done plenty wrong, don’t have to be in trouble for those bad things we’ve done. He got in trouble FOR US!!  He DIED FOR US!!
But the reason why we are happy about it is because he came back to life and he’s still alive today. And even better than that – he want’s to be your friend!!
That’s what this book tells us. We call this book the Bible.  And we believe that God actually wrote this book, even though he used people like Solomon and Paul to do the actual writing.
And in this Bible, God tells us that if we believe in Jesus and listen to what He says, then we will be wise – but even better than that, we will be forgiven of our bad actions and be part of God’s family both now and in heaven later.
It’s as simple as ABC.
Admit you have done things wrong.
Believe that Jesus died for you and came back to life.
Confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
